Track and field star Noah Lyles quickly went from being a national hero to a debate topic by many NBA players.

In his latest press conference, Lyles ranted about the fact that NBA players claim to be world champions, even though the NBA is actually a national league — just as it states in its name.

Lyles talked about how his sport features people from all over the world representing their nations and their flags, adding that the U.S. is not the whole world.

He makes a valid point, as most major sports tournaments in the U.S. give out ‘world’ championships, even though they only face national teams.

However, as one would expect, NBA players didn’t like his comments at all and took to Twitter to mock him and call him out.

That includes Sacramento Kings star De’Aaron Fox, who even asked why he cares that much.

Lyles’ argument may not come from the right place, but he does make sense.

There’s literally a FIBA World Cup going on right now, which grants the title of World Champion to whichever team wins it.

And it’s not like he said that NBA players aren’t the best basketball players on Earth — which they obviously are — he just states that the title doesn’t make any sense, and that’s coming from a guy who represents his nation in world competitions.

NBA players are used to being looked up to and idolized, and they can’t seem to stand when anyone has something to say about the league.
