Deion Sanders was the talk of college football last season as he put the Colorado Buffaloes on the map due to his unique approach to roster construction and coaching in general.

The game has changed due to NIL deals and the transfer portal, and Coach Prime is doing his best to navigate uncertain waters the best he can and stay ahead of the competition who might not be as progressive when it comes to building teams, and he discussed these things in a recent media appearance.

Sanders did an interview with Thee Preegame Show and his words were highlighted by The Athletic’s Chris Kamrani, saying in regards to Colorado’s roster, “we’ve patterned this thing like the NFL,” noting that the transfer portal has forced college coaches to approach offseasons like NFL front offices approach free agency.

Deion Sanders once again doubled down on Colorado’s approach to roster construction.

Sanders added that the portal makes it difficult to develop players, saying “We’re different from a multitude of different teams and you can’t say what’s good or what’s bad. I know what works for us and what has worked for us tremendously.”

Sanders also pointed out that his program gets more attention, whether good or bad, than any other program in the country from the transfer portal, which is hard to disagree with given the amount of buzz he generated in just one year in Boulder.

He is right in the sense that all of this is so new that nobody has the transfer portal down to a science yet, but so far Sanders looks like he is going to be a trailblazer in this new era of college football.
