In less than two calendar years, Brock Purdy has gone from the last player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft to being a starting quarterback in the Super Bowl.
On Sunday, he will have the opportunity to be the lowest-drafted quarterback to even win a world championship when his San Francisco 49ers take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII.
Already, Purdy has been one of the more amazing stories in any sport in recent memory, considering how much of an afterthought he seemed to be at the start of last season.
In fact, former 49ers defensive back Deion Sanders called Purdy the best story in over two decades, per OurSF49ers.
“This kid is the best story in probably over two decades,” Sanders said.

The last time a player came from nothing to reach the mountaintop in this type of fashion was Kurt Warner, who went from undrafted to leading the then-St. Louis Rams to a Vince Lombardi Trophy at the end of the 1999 season.
Plenty still seem to think Purdy is nothing more than an illusion, but his stats and his team’s results prove that he’s for real.
He threw for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns this season while leading the NFL in passer rating, QBR and yards per pass attempt, and he was one of the leading candidates for the regular season MVP award.
He then further proved that he has arrived by leading San Francisco to come-from-behind wins in the first two rounds of the playoffs.
The 49ers are looking to win their first Super Bowl since Sanders played for them during the 1994 campaign, and doing so would cement Purdy as a true Cinderella story for the ages.
