When DeMarcus Cousins joined the Golden State Warriors in the 2018-19 season, people were expecting big things from him.
It ultimately didn’t pan out the way fans wanted but Cousins still put up more than 16 points per game in Golden State.
Now he’s giving some insight into how his trip to the team came together.
Speaking with Draymond Green, per ClutchPoints, Cousins revealed that it all started after he suffered a bad injury while still playing with the New Orleans Pelicans.
While still recovering, he was visited by Dell Demps of the Pelicans, who claimed Cousins was hard to work with.
He also said his value had gone down because of his injury.
Offended, Cousins and his management team started poking around the league, looking for a new NBA home.
“If you can get DeMarcus Cousins, you f*cking get DeMarcus Cousins.”

In the interview, Green remembers his side of the story.
He was on vacation when he was called by the Warriors’ front office and informed that Cousins could be coming to Golden State.
Green was completely on board with that idea and said, “If you can get DeMarcus Cousins, you f—–g get DeMarcus Cousins.”
And that was that: within weeks, Cousins was in Golden State and adjusting to his new team.
He would end up averaging 16.3 points and 8.2 rebounds during his sole season with the Warriors.
Sadly, injuries flared up again and he missed all of the following season, before moving onto the Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Clippers, and other teams.
Cousins came to the Warriors in hopes of starting a new chapter and finding success but it just wasn’t meant to be.
