Derek Carr has officially made his New Orleans Saints debut, albeit in a preseason game.
Carr wasn’t in the game long, throwing for 70 yards and a touchdown, completing six of eight passes.
Despite his lack of minutes in this contest, many applauded Carr’s efforts, including head coach Dennis Allen.
In a postgame presser, according to ESPN reporter Katherine Terrell, Allen said “Carr was in control and poised.”

He added this is “what you’d want to see from a quarterback.”
While many take preseason comments with a grain of salt, Allen seems to have the utmost confidence in Carr.
The organization did take a gamble on him during the offseason, signing Carr to a four-year contract.
He’s their first attempt at a franchise quarterback since the departure of Drew Brees and has massive shoes to fill.
The Saints have worked to make Carr’s time in New Orleans a success.
Chris Olave is returning for a sophomore season after an impressive rookie campaign.
The hope for Olave is a massive step forward in year two, proving to the organization that he was worthy of a first-round pick in 2022.
Carr also has Alvin Kamara at his disposal, although he’ll miss the first three games of the season.
When he returns, Kamara’s past performance as a pass-catching back should prove valuable, adding another option for Carr.
The NFC South is up for grabs, especially given the amount of team turnover throughout the offseason.
Can Carr and the Saints stake their claim in the division, grabbing hold of the title?
