After narrowly missing out on the NFC South title and a playoff spot last season, the New Orleans Saints focused a good deal of their offseason on the defensive side of the football.
Their big addition there was defensive end Chase Young, a former Defensive Rookie of the Year, who signed in free agency after the Washington Commanders traded him to the San Francisco 49ers midway through last season.
Last week, he was placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list after recently undergoing neck surgery, but head coach Dennis Allen said he “will participate in some form of practice” on Wednesday, per the Saints’ official Twitter account.

Young, the No. 2 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, showed plenty of promise in his first pro season with 7.5 sacks, four passes defended, four forced fumbles, 12 quarterback hits and 10 tackles for loss.
Since then, injuries have slowed him down, but he had a solid 2023 campaign with 7.5 sacks, 15 QB hits and seven tackles for loss.
The hope is that having veteran Pro Bowl linebacker Demario Davis behind him will help boost his production.
New Orleans is hoping that this time around, they will win their division and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020, which was the final season for legendary quarterback Drew Brees.
They have a solid quarterback in Derek Carr, two promising young wide receivers in Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed and a productive running back in Alvin Kamara.
Kamara has been involved in a contract dispute, but he reported to training camp, and the team is hopeful he will participate in practice.
