One of the neatest things an NFL player or former NFL player can do is recount some of their best memories while playing on the field.
Saints veteran quarterback Derek Carr recently talked about one of his favorite throws in his career on Green Light with Chris Long.
“One of my favorite throws of my life was in a Pro Bowl, on a hard count…I did it just so I could throw a touchdown,” Carr said.

The hard count in the NFL is truly a quarterback’s best friend at certain points.
It can create a “free play” after causing the defense to jump offsides.
They call it a free play because the offense can do anything with zero repercussions.
That is why most quarterbacks just chuck the ball deep because it won’t hurt them at all.
It’s one of those things that makes quarterback Aaron Rodgers arguably the greatest at his position in the history of the NFL.
Being able to use the hard count and make it difficult for the defense to get any sort of a jump off the line of scrimmage is a true art.
Now entering his second year in New Orleans, Carr will be looking to catch a lot of defenses off-guard with the hard count.
With back-to-back 1,000-yard wide receiver Chris Olave and deep threat Rashid Shaheed in the fold for 2024, Carr will have his options when it comes to burning defenses with the deep ball.
It would be even sweeter if it came via the hard count.
