Brandon Staley has been on the hot seat for the Los Angeles Chargers throughout the season.

He was once seen as a brilliant football mind, but that opinion has started to change due to the Chargers’ recent struggles.

Fans and analysts have started to turn on Staley, wondering if the team should look elsewhere at head coach.

This conversation got louder after the Chargers’ blowout loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in primetime.

While a decision has not yet been made, one of Staley’s star players recently advocated for him to stick around.

In a postgame conversation shared via Bridget Condon, Derwin James said, “It’s not going our way; there’s no need to point one finger.”

Derwin James on if there may be a disconnect between the players and coaches:

“There are a lot of times he [Staley] makes a great call and we just mess it up as players. It’s a business where we’re all in it together. It’s not going our way there’s no need to point one finger.…

James recognized the team’s recent struggles but indicated they were not Staley’s fault.

He believes the team is slightly unlucky, and this year hasn’t gone as planned.

James added that the team is “all in this together, and I feel like as players we can be better, and I’m pretty sure all the coaches feel like they can be better too.”

While James doesn’t want to throw his coach under the bus, he recognizes that many aspects need to change within the organization.

If the coaching staff improves, and the players can keep improving themselves every week, things could shift for the Chargers.

Despite James’ optimism and desire for change within his team, the jury is still out on Staley’s future with the Chargers.

Losing in blowout fashion is not ideal, especially in a primetime game.
