The Los Angeles Lakers laid out a big contract for UConn’s Dan Hurley over the weekend but it simply wasn’t enough.
Now, just one day after the Lakers faced heartbreak from Hurley, details are coming out about his next steps.
Speaking to Pat McAfee, Shams Charania revealed that Hurley and UConn are discussing a six-year deal that is worth a little over $50 million.
“He’s always been an East Coast guy and he believes deeply in what they’ve built at UConn,” Charania said.

A number of Lakers fans are surely quite bitter to hear how committed Hurley is to UConn and the East Coast.
After days of getting their hopes up, they found out on Monday that they never really stood a chance to land Hurley and the search for a new head coach continues.
Six years and $50 million is lower than what the Lakers were offering but Hurley’s choice is about more than just numbers.
He has done amazing things with his college team and wants to continue conquering with them.
Plus, he doesn’t want to leave his part of the country and move his family across the US for a job that would come with a lot of pressure and very high expectations.
Charania did mention that Hurley will probably move to the NBA eventually.
But he agreed that it would likely be for an East Coast team, such as the New York Knicks.
For the time being, however, he is going to remain with UConn and attempt to lead them to a third consecutive national championship.
As for the Lakers, they are back to the drawing board and will pick up the pieces and move on.
