After weeks of speculation about the Los Angeles Lakers’ imminent hiring of JJ Redick as head coach, the storied franchise has suddenly taken a completely different direction.

Although there’s still a chance that Redick gets the job in the end, he’s no longer considered the favorite to land the job to be Darvin Ham’s successor in Los Angeles, with a report coming out recently that the team is aggressively pursuing UConn’s Dan Hurley and is willing to pay a substantial amount to bring him in.

The Lakers franchise has notoriously underpaid head coaches in the past while also being extremely impatient in terms of a timeline for success, but it seems the 17-time champions could be going with a new philosophy moving forward.

According to John Fanta of FOX Sports, the Lakers have offered Hurley a deal worth over $100 million, instantly making him one of the highest-paid coaches ever to coach this team in Los Angeles via Evan Sidery of Forbes.

The Lakers have reportedly offered Dan Hurley a contract exceeding $100 million to become their head coach, per @John_Fanta (https://t.co/wnIw33KRBB).

It appears that the Lakers brass are tired of a revolving door at the head coaching position and want to bring in someone with a promising future ahead who can create a winning culture in Los Angeles, be respected by the players, and keep them accountable.

The real question now is whether Hurley is genuinely ready to leave the UConn Huskies, where he has won back-to-back National Championships with the problem and has the opportunity for a three-peat next season if he stays.

Hurley is in a win-win situation here, but it remains to be seen whether he’ll make the jump to the professional level or stay with the Huskies.
