The New England Patriots were reportedly one of the teams that reached out to the San Francisco 49ers in an effort to trade for star receiver Brandon Aiyuk, but those plans fell through.
Just recently, details have emerged regarding how much New England was willing to pay Aiyuk if they were able to trade for him.
According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo on The Rich Eisen Show, the Pats were willing to pay Aiyuk $32 million per year.
“$32 million a year was what the Patriots were willing to do…Aiyuk feels like he’s a No. 1…The Patriots were willing to split those two tiers ($35 million and $28 million)…It’s not just about the money for him,” Garafolo said.

The Patriots could have made a great trade partner for the 49ers considering they were willing to pay Aiyuk all that money, and they are also out of the Niners’ conference.
However, what must have turned Aiyuk off from that team was the fact that they are a rebuilding team that is coming off of a 4-13 season.
Aiyuk must be hoping to find a balance between good pay and a quality team.
Other teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns have reportedly been interested in trading for Aiyuk, but it is unclear how much they are willing to give up to both acquire him and pay him.
Both of those teams are also in the AFC, but they are also coming off of playoff seasons, unlike New England.
Time will tell to see if the back-to-back 1,000-yard receiver can find a situation that feels right for him.
