The Memphis Grizzlies have reportedly told Dillon Brooks that they do not intend to bring him back “under any circumstances.”
So, they’re pretty much blaming him for this season’s shortcomings and stating, “if you were the only basketball player left on planet Earth, we’d rather have just 11 guys on our roster.”
Not only is that unfair, but it might not reflect the reality of what went wrong this season.
However, former NBA player JJ Redick believes the Grizzlies never actually told him that.
That’s why he went at “agenda-driven media” in his latest appearance on ESPN’s First Take, calling out reporters for adding that kind of language for engagement.
Notably, it didn’t take long before that clip found its way to Brooks’ agent, who didn’t hesitate to publicly call out Shams Charania of The Athletic for allegedly spreading fake news.
@ShamsCharania the leader of spreading false news and attacking players. Why any player in the league talks to this guy blows my mind. #weirdo https://t.co/Coj2b0aY6E

Charania reported that the Grizzlies and Brooks mutually agreed to part ways, but he did include the “under any circumstances” part, which was the part of the report that stood up.
Brooks did do a lot of things wrong late in the season, and we’re not talking about poking fun at LeBron James.
He also refused to talk to the media multiple times, which is also a part of his job.
The Grizzlies had valid reasons to move on from him, even from a basketball standpoint.
Nevertheless, it feels like he’s being their fall guy right now.
