Entering the 2023-24 NBA season, the Milwaukee Bucks had championship aspirations with first-time head coach Adrian Griffin.

Griffin was supposed to come in and revamp a Bucks team that got upset in the first round the previous year and was well on his way to doing so when he led the team to a 33-13 record.

However, Griffin was surprisingly let go after there were reported disagreements among himself and the staff and locker room.

The franchise quickly pivoted to Doc Rivers and the two sides agreed to a four-year, $40 million deal.

Rivers was supposed to be an instant boost for the team, but instead, they’ve struggled and limped into the All-Star break after winning just three of their previous 10 games.

The former Boston Celtics head coach admitted that the timing of his hiring could’ve been better via Yaron Weitzman of FOX.

“Taking a job when you’re about to go on the toughest road trip of the season is not the smartest decision. I even told them that: ‘Can we wait ‘til All-Star break?’ It would have been a lot nicer,” Rivers said.

Any time a coach takes over midseason, there’s naturally going to be an adjustment period but no one could’ve predicted Milwaukee to struggle so much on both ends.

Rivers has done well to teach and implement things on both sides of the ball, but it hasn’t translated into wins quite yet.

The Bucks are still sitting in third in the Eastern Conference, but they aren’t the juggernaut that most expected them to be at this point of the season.
