Doc Rivers has been an NBA head coach for over 20 years, but there is a feeling, at least among some, that he is overrated and lacking.
His teams have a history of underachieving in the playoffs, and his teams have blown a large number of 3-1 and 3-2 series leads in the postseason.
He was hired by the Milwaukee Bucks midway through this season, but he was unable to get them to play up to their potential, as they played inconsistently and lost in the first round of the playoffs to the Indiana Pacers.
Former sharpshooter and current ESPN commentator JJ Redick blasted Rivers for always making excuses and throwing his team under the bus, and Rivers responded by bragging about how Redick’s career took off under his coaching, per ClutchPoints.
“JJ Redick’s best numbers of his career was under one coach and you’re looking at him. I’m the one who grabbed him out of Milwaukee and decided to start him.”

Redick came into the NBA as the No. 11 pick in the 2006 draft, and despite having an accurate 3-point stroke, he was mostly a bench player for his first seven pro seasons.
He came to Rivers’ Los Angeles Clippers for the 2013-14 season and became a starter, and his scoring and 3-point shooting percentage both increased significantly.
In 15 seasons, Redick ended up averaging 12.8 points in 25.5 minutes a game while hitting 41.5 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc.
Today, he has been talked about as a potential head coaching candidate, even though he has never even been an assistant coach at either the NBA or college level.
Meanwhile, Rivers’ Bucks have some work to do if they are to become championship contenders again and maximize the prime of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
