Since making his MLB debut in 2016, Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Julio Urias has been one of the best and most consistent pitchers in baseball.

It helps that he plays in one of the best environments to pitch: the Dodgers are known for their player development skills, and they worked wonders with Urias.

They helped him be a 3.03-ERA pitcher for his career, which is an amazing outcome.

However, he has been struggling this year with a 4.39 ERA in 92.1 frames.

Perhaps we should say “had been” struggling this season, because he has shown in the last few starts that he is much, much better than a 4.39-ERA pitcher.

Don’t look now, but Julio Urias has thrown 14 consecutive scoreless innings. He’s also allowed 2 runs or fewer in 7 of his last 11 starts,” Dodgers insider Blake Harris tweeted.

Consider this: after his outing on July 19 in Baltimore against the Orioles, things got so bad that Urias’ ERA was 5.02.

Of course, he conceded eight earned runs that day.

Something clicked for him in the three subsequent outings, though, and his ERA has been dramatically decreasing ever since.

It is now at a much more palatable 4.39, and if he keeps this up, the number will probably be in the mid-to-high-3.00s when all is said and done.

He has three consecutive quality starts and is finally rounding into form.

The same can be said about the Dodgers as a team, as they now have a five-game lead over the San Francisco Giants in the NL West.

The division should be theirs if Urias resembles the pitcher we have seen since 2016 and not the one he was in the first half of the 2023 campaign.
