The Los Angeles Dodgers are always open to bringing in injury-prone (sometimes, even injured) players as long as they can make a difference when healthy.
They prioritize upside over anything else.
When it comes to upside when healthy, Daniel Hudson’s can be compared with the best relievers in the league.
That’s why the Dodgers have decided to bring him back even though he pitched just three games in 2023.
“Dodgers are signing Daniel Hudson to a minor league deal, source confirms to The Athletic. It will be worth $2 million if he makes the major league club and up to $2 million more in performance bonuses based off games and games finished. @JeffPassan was on it,” Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya tweeted.

The fact they were able to get Hudson, a guy who has shown the ability to be a shutdown reliever, on a minor league deal is amazing.
It speaks volumes about their ability to recruit talent.
Hudson will soon turn 37, but he remains quite good.
In 2022, he had a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 innings in LA, with just five walks and 30 strikeouts.
He tore his ACL that year and had to miss some time in 2023 as a result.
After returning, he struggled to leave the knee injury behind and could only appear in three games, logging three shutout frames.
His second injury was a right knee MCL sprain.
The expectation is that he is ready to go in spring training, eager to prove that the knee problems are behind him.
If that’s the case, he should have no problems making the Dodgers bullpen out of camp.
