The Los Angeles Dodgers have spent more than a billion dollars during the offseason.
They have filled their roster with star-level players, such as Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Teoscar Hernandez, and Manuel Margot.
If you thought they were done adding, think again: they want to really make sure they aren’t beaten in the postseason.
Now, recent reports have them inking left-hander James Paxton to a one-year contract worth at least $11 million.
“The Dodgers are adding depth to the starting rotation by signing veteran James Paxton to a one-year contract. He’ll receive a base salary of at least $11 million with incentives, per @chad_dey,” MLB insider Bob Nightengale tweeted.

The Dodgers understand the importance of depth more than anyone, especially on the pitching side.
One of the reasons they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last year was because they were short in the rotation.
Now, they have Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, Bobby Miller, Glasnow, Paxton, Emmet Sheehan, Michael Grove, Gavin Stone, plus Dustin May returning around the summer.
Clayton Kershaw, who is injured at the moment, could also potentially sign a one-year deal and return in the second half.
Now, the Dodgers have a lot of depth in the starting pitching position.
Paxton is fragile and injury-prone, but also very talented.
He has a career 3.69 ERA and finished 2023 with a 4.50 mark with the Boston Red Sox, in 19 starts.
He could bring that number down in LA, where the best coaches and pitching instructors are.
It’s a good signing for both sides.
