The Los Angeles Dodgers were almost flawless in August.
They accumulated an incredible 24-5 record, fueled by the performance of two specific players.
One, Mookie Betts, strengthened his MVP case with a marvelous month, and the other, James Outman, was good enough to earn his second Rookie of the Month award of 2023.
“Mookie Betts was named NL Player of the Month for August. James Outman was named NL Rookie of the Month (had also won in April),” Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya tweeted.

Betts is in a race with Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. to see who wins the NL MVP award.
The 2018 winner in the AL made himself a true candidate with his amazing August.
He hit .455/.516/.839 with a 1.355 OPS in the month that just finished.
No wonder the Dodgers won so many games!
He also had 11 home runs, 10 doubles, three stolen bases, 30 RBI, and 35 runs scored in the month.
As for Outman, he continues to show why he has been one of the most impressive rookies in 2023.
He had cooled off some after his explosive April, but he picked up the pace in August again.
In the month, the outfielder hit .277/.408/.482 with five round-trippers, 15 RBI, and a .890 OPS.
He has 17 homers, 14 steals, and a .793 OPS for the season as a whole.
Betts, meanwhile, is having the finest season of his career at .316/.410/.615 with 38 dingers and 99 RBI.
Together with Freddie Freeman and Outman, they are carrying the Dodgers to the best record in the NL West.
They have all been brilliant and deserve the recognition.
