The Miami Dolphins are now in need of some help on the edge of their defensive line.
This is the case because former Pro Bowl edge-rusher Shaq Barrett, a two-time Super Bowl winner who signed with the team earlier this offseason, abruptly retired recently after nine NFL seasons.
To combat losing Barrett, Miami is bringing in multiple pass-rushers for workouts, according to The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson.
“In wake of Shaq Barrett retirement, Dolphins are auditioning multiple edge players on Monday. Besides Ogbah, Yannick Ngakoue also will be at Dolphins headquarters on Monday,” Jackson recently announced on social media.

The good news for the Dolphins is that they already have two quality starters on the edge in starter Jaelan Phillips (8.5 sacks in 2022) and two-time Pro-Bowler Bradley Chubb.
With Phillips also coming off of an Achilles injury that abruptly ended his 2023 season and with there being virtually no strong depth behind both starters with Barrett now gone, this is a smart decision by the Dolphins to look for more help.
Starting with Emmanuel Ogbah, he is a former Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs and spent the last four seasons with the Dolphins.
The current free agent has 42.5 sacks in 107 career games played.
If Yannick Ngakoue were to be signed by the Dolphins, this would be his seventh NFL team in nine years.
However, that does not mean that the former Pro-Bowler hasn’t produced in his career.
The 29-year-old has 69.0 career sacks and multiple 10-sack seasons to his name.
Again, the Dolphins are not looking for a starter, but it would be significant if they were to add one of these players for depth reasons.
