This past offseason, the Miami Dolphins were among the NFL teams that were rumored to have interest in signing former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook.

But the interest was never out of desperation, as the Dolphins were already confident in a running back room that featured Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, and rookie De’Von Achane.

Miami wound up passing on Cook, and it turned out to be the right move, especially when it came to Achane.

The rookie running back had some very impressive performances for the Dolphins earlier in the season, including a Week 3 game against the Denver Broncos, where he finished with 233 total yards and four touchdowns, but he’s only appeared in five contests this year so far.

Miami has only had Achane on the field once since Week 6, but he is expected to be in the lineup this weekend, according to a post on Twitter from the Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson on Friday.

Achane will play Sunday, McDaniel said. Coach doesn’t know on Rob Hunt but optimistic.

Achane wound up appearing in the Dolphins’ Week 11 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, but he was only on the field for three offensive snaps.

The rookie’s workload might be low again this week when Miami takes on the Washington Commanders, but he’s already shown that he doesn’t need a heavy dose of the football to make an impact.

After beginning the season with a 5-1 record, Achane and the Dolphins are 3-2 in their last five games, with their losses coming to the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

A win on Sunday would be huge for Miami, as they still have a chance to finish the season as the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
