One of the biggest contract situations happening right now is that of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

The Pro Bowl signal-caller is looking for a major extension from the Miami Dolphins.

According to reporter Yianni Kouraakis, Tagovailoa did not throw with the team during the second day of training camp today.

“Yesterday, Tua participated in team drills but not 11-on-11. A new approach for the QB,” Kourakis recently posted on social media.

The former national champion clearly does not want to risk injury while he is in the midst of battling for a raise.

Keep in mind that other Pro Bowl quarterbacks in Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence currently sit at $55 million per year in their contracts as the two highest-paid players at the position.

Tagovailoa and his camp could be looking to go higher than that.

In back-to-back seasons, he has led the league in either passing yards or passer rating.

He is coming off of a career year in terms of completions (388), completion percentage (69.3%), passing yards (4,624), and touchdown passes (29).

Miami has also made the playoffs in back-to-back years for the first time since the start of the century thanks in large part to Tagovailoa’s regular-season play.

If the Dolphins were to not give him the contract that he wants, do they have a better option available?

That seems unlikely given how well Tagovailoa knows the building and the roster.

His play has improved as he has grown up in the league, but the question is whether or not Miami believes it has improved enough to pay him major money.
