The Cleveland Cavaliers have really come together in the 2022-23 season.

They were already one of the most promising teams in the Eastern Conference but they got considerably better this year, mostly due to the addition of Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell is a huge part of the team’s success but he is well aware that he’s not the only one doing great work.

Speaking of his teammate Evan Mobley, Mitchell said he should be Defensive Player of the Year.

“He should be the Defensive Player of the Year. I’ve played with a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, so I know what it looks like and I’m seeing it with him, for sure,” Mitchell said according to Cavaliers writer Danny Cunningham.

Mitchell was referring to Rudy Gobert in his statement, who he played with during his time with the Utah Jazz.

He is right when he said he knows what it takes to win DPOY.

But will Mobley take home the honor this year?

Mobley certainly is having a wonderful season: he has posted 16.4 points, 9 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks a game this year.

This is only his second season in the NBA but he has already become a very pivotal part of his team and one of the most fearsome defensive players in the league.

But the competition for Defensive Player of the Year is hotter than ever and numerous athletes have had breakout seasons in the defense department.

Winning Defensive Player of the Year would be special, of course, but winning the Finals would be much better.
