After a shocking result of the NBA Draft Lottery, the Atlanta Hawks have jumped every other team in contention and will have the No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft, with most draft experts believing they’ll bring in French import Alex Sarr to follow in the footsteps of fellow countryman Victor Wembanyama.
Although Sarr seems to be the consensus top prospect in next week’s draft, there’s been a lot of speculation about what the Hawks could do, with the team seemingly having both Dejounte Murray and Trae Young on the trading block.
The Hawks are clearly open for business this summer, with the team’s brass wanting to shake things up after another disappointing end to a season, which means they could shop the pick if there’s a team that is enamored with Sarr.
According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Hawks haven’t decided what they are going to do with the No. 1 overall pick, and there is only a week left until they are on the clock via NBA on ESPN.
“I don’t believe that they’ve made a decision yet,” Givony said.

One potential scenario for the Hawks is making a blockbuster trade with the San Antonio Spurs, who own the No. 4 and 8 overall picks.
The Spurs could be targeting Sarr to pair with Wembanyama in the frontcourt while also needing a point guard like Murray or Young to help initiate the offense and put up some points.
It’ll be interesting to see what Atlanta decides to do, but a trade is very much in the conversation with a week to go before the first round gets underway.
