A lot of eyes are going to be focused on the progression of rookie quarterback Drake Maye in New England this NFL season.
The No. 3 overall pick out of North Carolina is currently in a quarterback competition with veteran Jacoby Brissett.
After Maye’s impressive performance last night against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Patriots’ second preseason game, he spoke about his current confidence level in the NFL right now.
“I think every time you get out there you kinda get more and more confident…The more reps – I think it’s only gonna help me. At the end of the day, I’m just fortunate to be able to get out there and get some reps and try and make the most of my opportunities,” Maye said postgame in front of the New England media.

In New England’s 14-13 preseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Maye went 6/11 for 47 yards and also ran in his first career NFL touchdown.
Brissett went just 3/7 for 17 yards and an interception.
Judging by the play and the statistics, it feels as if Maye could have the advantage right now in the race for the starting quarterback gig.
Also, the good news for Maye is that nobody is expecting anything big from this Patriots team because they are so young and are rebuilding.
That means that there isn’t a ton of pressure on Maye to perform well.
But pressure or not, it looks like Maye is growing more and more comfortable in his role under center up in Foxborough this preseason.
