The Golden State Warriors have always needed Draymond Green’s playmaking and defense, but they’ve also benefitted from his strong character.
Granted, Green’s temper has also gotten him in plenty of trouble, but when he’s locked in, there are few people better at his job than him.
Even so, his volatile nature and some of the incidents he’s been tangled up in over the past years have put him in a tough spot in the eyes of some fans and pundits.
With that in mind, he recently claimed that he had ‘lost respect for a lot of people,’ referring to Stephen A. Smith and the way he didn’t stand up for him when people were calling him out and stating that he needed assistance for his mental health.
Those who watched that interview with Shaquille O’Neal thought Green was taking a big shot at the ESPN pundit.
That’s why he issued a public apology.
Shortly before tip-off of Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals, Green went out of his way to clear the air and let it be known that his words didn’t come out the way he wanted them, apologizing to Stephen A. for any misunderstanding (Via ClutchPoints).
“Shaq, I was on your podcast… and you just mentioned Stephen A. [Smith]. And I said something that didn’t come out the way I said it so I want to apologize to him. I said that publicly… I was wrong for that.”

That’s great to hear, and plenty of people — both players and the media — should take that as an example.
There’s nothing wrong with apologizing when we’re wrong or our words don’t come out the way we intended them to.
Then again, Green is reaching a point in which it would be better to avoid getting in trouble instead of having to apologize over and over.
