As a result of sending Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards in a blockbuster trade ahead of the 2023-24 NBA season, the Golden State Warriors received veteran Chris Paul in return.

Initially, the move was thought to potentially be disastrous, with Paul having a heated history with the Warriors and Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, but Golden State’s stars weren’t opposed to the move, and the future Hall of Famer was embraced with open arms in the Bay Area.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, the move didn’t result in a major change for Golden State, nor did it help its chances of competing in a stacked Western Conference, as Curry and company went on to miss the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

After one season with Golden State, Paul is on the move again as he signed with the San Antonio Spurs this summer to join forces with Victor Wembanyama.

Although Paul’s short stint in the Bay Area was forgettable, the veteran guard left an impression on Green, as he recently explained on his podcast.

“[Chris Paul] is one of the greatest vets I’ve ever been around. … That is a genius move by the Spurs,” Green said.

One glaring issue for the Spurs during Wembanyama’s rookie season was the lack of leadership on the floor and a point guard who could help initiate the offense while also providing some scoring.

Therefore, the Spurs headed into the offseason determined to upgrade the backcourt, and it appears they have with the addition of Paul, even though there’s no telling how much he’ll play or how much he has left in the tank at 39 years old.
