The New York Knicks were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Semifinals in seven games by the Indiana Pacers, a disappointing end for a team that was full of championship aspirations after a strong 2023-24 NBA season.
New York had every ingredient to be a legitimate title contender, but they simply didn’t have the bodies to compete after they lost several key players to injuries.
Players like O.G. Anunoby, Bojan Bogdanovic, and Mitchell Robinson were forced to miss postseason games, costing the Knicks a chance to get to the NBA Finals.
Even star guard Jalen Brunson wasn’t 100 percent as he dealt with a foot injury that limited him on the floor.
The New York fans were amazing during their games, though, as they had Madison Square Garden rocking for each home game in the playoffs.
Because of their importance to and legacy in the NBA, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green said the Knicks deserve a break and should win a title via The Big Podcast.
“The Knicks deserve a break,” Green said. “It’s been a long time. The New York Knicks win a playoff series, and their fans go crazy.”
“You never expect a team in Minnesota to win the NBA finals… If the Minnesota Timberwolves never win an NBA finals, nobody’s batting an eye.”

Green argues that small-market teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Pacers aren’t popular enough to warrant much attention when it comes to winning an NBA title.
While a harsh comment to make, Green has a point in that the league would definitely prefer to see a team like New York win it all.
Perhaps with better injury luck and more depth, the Knicks can make another run though it remains to be seen at this point.
