NBA fans still speak fondly of the 2019-20 Los Angeles Lakers and the unique success they found.

And many people believe they should have stayed together for much longer.

Dwight Howard, who was part of that championship squad, is one of the people who feels the team shouldn’t have broken up.

Speaking on “Gil’s Arena”, the big man said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka “messed up” by sending away some of the team’s best players.

If Pelinka didn’t ship out several stars, that Lakers squad could have been a dynasty, according to Howard.

The 2019-20 team featured some of the brightest up-and-comers in the league, including Alex Caruso, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Talen Horton-Tucker, Kyle Kuzma, and more.

Of course, LeBron James and Anthony Davis were at the center of it all.

Before the COVID pandemic, they were the most dominant team in the league and were moving past just about every opponent, according to Howard.

Even after a few months off because of COVID, the Lakers entered the Orlando bubble as the most fearsome squad in the entire league.

They were able to sail through the playoffs and ultimately shut down the Miami Heat in the Finals.

But in the summer, multiple stars were sent packing as Pelinka attempted to make the team better.

However, that didn’t work out as planned and the team hasn’t been as good since.

Howard said this was the perfect time for the Lakers to become a dynasty because it was prior to Nikola Jokic, Anthony Edwards, and other players becoming the superstars they are now.

They could have won multiple championships in a row if only Pelinka didn’t tinker with the good thing he had.
