The Philadelphia Eagles need to bounce back on defense next season.

They have plenty of youth and talent on that side of the field, with Darius Slay being one of their older projected starters.

However, even if that’s the case, he’s looked as sharp and mobile as ever, at least according to Eagles beat writer Eliot Shorr-Parks.

Shorr-Parks took to Twitter to rave about Slay and how ‘awesome’ he’s been in training camp.

Just had a really nice pass breakup in the EZ. Would have been a TD

Played it perfectly

Slay is expected to be the leader in the locker room, and they also need him to be at his best on the field.

They have a young core of cornerbacks, and they should continue to get better as the years go by.

The likes of Isaiah Rodgers, Quinyon Mitchell, and Kelee Ringo will progressively get more snaps, and some believe they could even end up replacing Slay in the starting lineup at some point in the year if age starts catching up with him.

For now, however, there’s no reason to believe that’s going to be the case, even if there were early concerns about how he looked against AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith at times.

The Eagles brought in Vic Fangio to fix their defense after a disappointing campaign.

Needless to say, they could’ve done a whole lot worse at defensive coordinator.

This could be a make-or-break season for Nick Sirianni’s team, and they will need their veteran to step up and fill in for Fletcher Cox and be their new leader.
