The Philadelphia Eagles were close to losing an integral part of their team after the 2022 NFL season.

Fortunately, this didn’t happen and Fletcher Cox re-signed with the team on a one-year, $10 million deal.

However, things could have been different for the player and the team, as one AFC franchise tried to lure him away from Philly.

According to Zack Rosenblatt, Cox admitted that he was close to joining the New York Jets.

Fletcher Cox admitted on Chris Long’s podcast that he was close to signing with the #Jets.

Close enough that he saw John Franklin-Myers had his number (91) and said he would’ve picked a new one.

The Eagles reportedly matched what the Jets were willing to pay.

Cox is a six-time Pro-Bowler who has spent his entire 11-season career in Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, he didn’t have a problem potentially joining the Jets and even admitted that he would’ve picked a different number.

John Franklin-Myers owns the No. 91 jersey on the Jets, but that wasn’t going to be a problem for Cox.

Fortunately, things didn’t end that way and he will return for a 12th season with the Eagles.

After losing Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Eagles have unfinished business.

During his career, Cox has recorded 336 solo tackles, 150 assists, 65.0 sacks and 13 fumble recoveries.
