Despite falling short of their goals in the 2023 NFL Playoffs, the Philadelphia Eagles have assembled one of the best rosters in football.

They have had a few players retire or leave the team during the offseason, but as a whole, they have remained strong.

The front office has committed to building this team around Jalen Hurts, who they have identified as their franchise quarterback for the foreseeable future.

A.J. Brown has already been signed to a multi-year contract, and it appears the Eagles are eyeing a deal with another one of their star receivers.

According to reporter Tim McManus, talks between DeVonta Smith and the front office have started, which could result in a contract extension for at least $25 million per year.

The ball is rolling on a DeVonta Smith contract extension.

Smith and Brown have combined to be one of the best receiver duos in the NFL, and the Eagles would seemingly like to keep them together.

The team has already extended Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson during the offseason, and as McManus points out, Smith could be the next player to receive a massive deal.

While $25 million per year might seem like a lot for a wide receiver, the market has shifted significantly over the past several years.

If the Eagles want to retain Smith, even though they’ve already spent a significant sum of money over the past several weeks, this is the going rate for a top receiver.

It remains to be seen if the Eagles will go through with this deal, but signs are pointing to that being the case.
