In the waning hours of the trading period before the deadline, the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers agreed on a deal to send left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez out west.
However, with the Dodgers being on Rodriguez’s 10-team no-trade list, the veteran lefty blocked the deal, and as a result is still with the Tigers.
This was met with some confusion from fans.
However, Rodriguez’s agent, Gene Mato cleared the air on the situation.
Mato released a statement on Wednesday revealing the specifics of the situation and why Rodriguez ultimately chose to stay in Detroit as opposed to going to Los Angeles.
The statement can be found in the tweet below.

Mato commented on the fact that when players are traded, their families are affected in several ways.
Mato says he does not take that lightly.
He continued by saying that Rodriguez wanted stability for his family above all else and that they have adapted quite nicely to the City of Detroit.
Mato said he was ultimately granted permission to speak with the Dodgers on the situation and that both parties did their best to try and work out a solution that benefitted everybody involved.
Unfortunately, time ran out and the deal fell through.
And so, Rodriguez will remain with the Tigers through at least the rest of this season.
Though his contract was a five-year deal, he could potentially opt out and return to free agency this winter.
If so, he would be a hot commodity on the market for any team searching for a frontline starter.
