The New York Mets will have to chase a world championship without one of their most important pitchers.
Closer Edwin Diaz suffered a torn patellar tendon in his knee during the World Baseball Classic.
He will miss the entire season and the Mets have a massive void they need to fill at the backend of their bullpen.
But, Mets fans can be happy to know that Diaz’s surgery went well, and he is already rehabbing.
As shared by SNY Mets, the closer posted a video to his Instagram doing rehab work.

This is great news for Diaz as he is already beginning a long recovery process.
On Opening Day the Mets had a save situation and gave the ball to David Robertson.
The journeyman pitcher has closer experience and will seemingly be asked to have that role on the Mets.
You can bet that over the full season, the Mets will have more trouble in the ninth inning than last year.
Diaz was one of the best pitchers in baseball in 2022.
He pitched 62 innings and had 118 strikeouts, while also saving 32 games in 35 opportunities.
That remarkable season saw Diaz finish ninth in the NL Cy Young voting.
While the Mets got off to a good start in 2023, replacing one of their most important players will be no easy task this year.
