The New York Mets are hoping for a better season in 2024.
Last year was a disaster for the Mets for many different reasons.
It all started in Spring Training when closer Edwin Diaz suffered a serious knee injury while celebrating during the World Baseball Classic.
Diaz proceeded to miss the entire season, causing the Mets to lose blow a lot of games in the final inning.
But, Diaz recovered successfully and he will be back to full strength this spring.
You can tell how much Diaz missed the game while he was out last year.
As shared by SNY Mets, he posted a picture of Citi Field with the label “Home.”

Diaz will be an immediate upgrade for the Mets bullpen.
In 2022, Diaz had one of the best seasons in recent memory for a closer.
He threw 62.0 innings with a 1.31 ERA and struck out 118.
Those numbers were good enough for a ninth-place finish in the NL Cy Young voting.
He also pitched in 61 games that year, including 49 of which he finished.
Diaz is the best addition the Mets could ask for to their bullpen this offseason.
Last season, the Mets had 19 blown saves.
With Diaz back they should be nowhere near that number in 2024.
It will be difficult for New York to compete for an NL East title.
They are chasing the Atlanta Braves, Philadelphia Phillies, and Miami Marlins.
All finished ahead of the Mets last year and made the playoffs.
The Mets will be led by a new manager in 2024 and have a different roster.
But, if they can stay healthy, a playoff berth is within the realm of possibilities.
