The New England Patriots are slowly entering a new era.
They may not be very good this season, as they have a subpar offensive line, little to no talent at wide receiver, and just lost their best pass rusher.
That, plus his small technical flaws, means it’s definitely better to keep Drake Maye on the sidelines for at least one season.
Thus far, the team has spoon-fed him during training camp in the preseason, and while that can be frustrating to fans, GM Eliot Wolf actually likes what he’s seen so far.
Talking to the media, Wolf said that he’s liked watching how calm and collected Maye has been throughout the whole process, adding that he’s also a very good teammate (via Patriots on CLNS Media).

Wolf praised Maye for just putting his head down and getting to work.
Maye has all the talent in the world, and he’s built like the prototypical modern-day quarterback.
He can make plays with his legs and has a very strong arm, but there are some mechanical issues.
He’s a little raw, and spending one year on the shelf to learn from a veteran like Jacoby Brissett and getting to work with the Patriots coaching staff is the right move here.
Of course, that will continue to put the fans’ patience to the test, as their chances of making the playoffs this season will be slim, and they’re just not used to being bottom-feeders after more than two decades of utter dominance.
