The New England Patriots are not expected to do much this season with the arrival of both first-year head coach Jerod Mayo and future starting quarterback Drake Maye.

Executive Vice President of Player Personnel Eliot Wolf was recently asked by the New England media about the prospect of “tanking” for a higher draft pick.

“I think tanking cheats the game. (We) would never get in a situation where we think that’s the right way to go. That’s not what the NFL is all about…That’s not what we’re gonna be about,” Wolf stated.

“Tanking,” otherwise known as essentially losing on purpose, is something that those who love the game of football and the spirit of competition do not go by.

The New England Patriots did not win six Super Bowls with Belichick and Brady because they lost a bunch of games on purpose before the arrival of both.

Eliot Wolf, who is the son of legendary Green Bay Packers GM Ron Wolf, is someone who has great respect for the NFL and the game of football.

Even if New England is set up for a rough 2024, that doesn’t mean that they would consider losing a bunch of games just to put themselves in a position to get a better draft pick.

Winning games definitely builds confidence, especially for an unproven and raw football team like the one in New England currently.

The Patriots might not be Super Bowl contenders this year, but that doesn’t mean that they would at all consider losing on purpose just to get more draft picks.

After all, draft picks are never a sure thing anyway.
