The Cincinnati Reds have recently received a major boost from Elly De La Cruz, who was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday.
De La Cruz made his Major League debut on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In that series, he showed off his elite speed and power.
His speed was on full display again on Saturday against the St. Louis Cardinals, as he ignored a sign from his third base coach to stop at third and ultimately ended up scoring.
After the Reds’ 8-4 victory at Busch Stadium, De La Cruz made a very bold statement about his speed, saying that he believes he is the fastest man in the world.

There are several players who may beg to differ on this one.
Players such as Harrison Bader, Tyler O’Neill, Oneil Cruz, and Corbin Carroll can be considered for this.
But you can’t deny that De La Cruz is an incredibly fast runner.
He certainly is one of the fastest players in the game and has showed as much over the course of his first five games.
De La Cruz is already an exciting player to watch and will continue to be somebody that fans enjoy seeing play over the next several years.
He is one of many young stars that are helping the Reds remain competitive this season and one who the team can build around in the future.
He’ll continue to have opportunities to prove his claim correct and show off his elite speed.
