The Los Angeles Lakers entered the offseason with several pressing needs on their roster, but have largely stood pat and allowed the bulk of free agents to sign elsewhere.
Despite the lack of action from the front office, LeBron James decided to re-sign with the team on a two-year deal at a slight discount.
James opted out of his player option for the 2024-25 NBA season which led to some speculation that he would leave, but now it seems likely that he’ll end his playing career with Los Angeles.
The Lakers may have enticed James to stay by drafting his son Bronny James, though the two have been adamant that playing with each other was never a for sure thing.
Regardless, the decision to take Bronny drew criticism from analysts and even former players like Enes Kanter.
Kanter even as far as to call James a dictator via Ryan Morik of FOX.
“When I see a dictator, I know it – LeBron is literally like the dictator of the NBA. He controls the media, he controls his narrative, if you go against his agenda, you get traded, everybody knows it,” Kanter said.
There is no love lost between James and Kanter as the latter has been vocal about his distaste for the former.
Kanter has criticized James for multiple issues in the past and that showed on the court as well as they had words for each other during games.
These sorts of allegations aren’t new when it comes to James, but by all accounts he has remained mum whenever Kanter brings up his name.
