There are two types of coaches in basketball, particularly in the NBA.
There are those who are great at preparing their game plans and dissecting the other team’s tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses before tip-off, and there are those who react in real time and make adjustments in-game.
Needless to say, not many coaches have been able to excel at both, and Erik Spoelstra is one of the few.
Working his way up all the way from the film room, Spoelstra has earned his stripes with the Miami Heat organization.
As pointed out by HeatMuse on Twitter, he has had the most playoff wins in the league since 2010, with 107, even eight more than Steve Kerr, who’s second on the list with 99.

They’ve teamed up to lead Team USA to the gold medal in the Olympics, and it’s hard to think of a better tandem to get the job done in Paris.
Spoelstra’s defensive mind has been crucial to the Heat’s success and strong culture-building.
But more than that, the team’s scouting and developing department has also been one of the best in the game, with Spoelstra turning borderline rotation players into legitimate role players.
Regardless of who’s on the floor, Spoelstra finds ways to give his team an opportunity to win.
With him at the helm, the Heat have been to the NBA Finals twice in the post-LeBron James and Dwyane Wade era, and that’s despite never having one of the five most talented rosters in the game during that span.
