On Sunday, the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals finished off their opening series, with St. Louis coming out on top by a final of 9-4 and ultimately securing a series win.
However, one member of the Blue Jays walked away with the gift of a lifetime.
Reliever Erik Swanson got a chance to meet a childhood hero of his.
Before the game, the right-hander met with Cardinals legend Adam Wainwright.
The 29-year-old grew up idolizing Wainwright and even wears No. 50 on his jersey in honor of his childhood hero.
Knowing this, Wainwright gave Swanson a signed jersey.
The Cardinals posted a few photos of the two meeting one another on Twitter.

It’s one thing to wear a certain number to honor your idol.
It’s another to get a chance to meet them and receive a signed jersey as well.
Simply put, Swanson’s dreams came true when he got a chance to meet his idol.
The Council Bluffs, Iowa native grew up in prime Cardinals territory.
Wainwright was drafted by the Atlanta Braves, but was traded over to the Cardinals in 2003 and has spent his entire MLB career with the team.
The veteran right-hander owns a pair of World Series rings, two 20-win seasons, and three All-Star appearances.
Swanson made his MLB debut in 2019.
But Wainwright has been his idol since he was young, and Swanson finally got a chance to not only meet the 41-year-old, but receive a signed jersey from him as well.
It’s safe to say that Swanson had the experience of a lifetime.
