ESPN has been laying off a number of people lately in what people believe is a slew of cost-cutting moves.

Among the people it has let go are NBA commentators Jeff Van Gundy and Jalen Rose and legendary NFL quarterback Steve Young.

Now, Mark Jackson, a former NBA star and head coach, is reportedly out.

Jackson has had two separate stints with the network, working with Van Gundy and play-by-play announcer Mike Breen for its telecasts of NBA games.

In between, he served as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors for three seasons, during which time he helped transform them from a laughingstock to a competitive team.

He was fired in 2014, and right afterward, his replacement Steve Kerr made them an elite team that won four of the next eight world championships.

Back in the day, Jackson was a very solid point guard who had a productive 17-season career in the league.

A native of the New York City borough of Brooklyn, he had the good fortune of being drafted by the New York Knicks in 1987, and he ended up playing with a total of seven different teams.

He was the Rookie of the Year for the 1987-88 season, and he is sixth on the list of most career assists in NBA history.

Reports indicate that ESPN’s plan is to team up Breen with Doris Burke and another former coach in Doc Rivers for its top NBA broadcasting team.

Jackson had previously been criticized for being the lone voter who didn’t put Nikola Jokic on his ballot for the regular season MVP award.
