Everyone Was Saying The Same Thing About Zach Wilson Sunday

A couple of years ago, the Denver Broncos got tired of losing in the post-Peyton Manning era and boldly acquired superstar quarterback Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in a blockbuster trade that sent shockwaves throughout the NFL.

With the move similar to the team bringing in Manning in the twilight of his career, many people thought the Broncos might become relevant once again and potentially a Super Bowl title contender, as they had potentially found the missing piece to the championship puzzle.

Unfortunately for Denver, the Wilson trade was a disaster, and the storied franchise released him after the 2023 NFL season because he wasn’t the same dominant player he once was in his prime with the Seahawks.

With Wilson getting released and ultimately signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team decided to start from scratch and select a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft, resulting in the team bringing in former Oregon Ducks star Bo Nix.

Along with bringing in Nix, the team acquired former first-round pick Zach Wilson in a trade with the New York Jets, who put on a show on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, which may have secured his spot on the final roster via Romi Bean of CBS News.

Here are some reactions to Wilson’s performance on Sunday for the Broncos:

Zach Wilson has looked better than he ever has in his time with the Denver Broncos so far this preseason

Pocket presence, patience, accuracy, everything. This drive was damn near flawless by him pic.twitter.com/ZKVWlKiulV

Zach Wilson putting it on TAPE right now. Sean Payton was effusive in his praise for him…Will it be enough to be QB2 for #BroncosCountry pic.twitter.com/pzwVzGeEV7

Zach Wilson should be the QB2.

Is the floor lower than Stidham? Yes. But the ceiling is astronomically higher.

I’m aware that QB2 should typically be the more steady, consistent guy (Stidham), but this situation should be the exception.

Or roll with 3 QBs. Keep Zach.

Zach Wilson should be QB2.

Not only has Wilson almost certainly retained his job in the Mile High City, but he may have pushed Jarrett Stidham down the quarterback depth chart.

Head coach Sean Payton recently announced that Nix would be the team’s Week 1 starter, which led many to assume the team would have Stidham as the backup and Wilson as the third string or cut.

It’ll be interesting to see what the Broncos do from here and whether Wilson has a future in Denver.
