Luka Doncic was out on Friday night due to a knee injury so fans of the Golden State Warriors were hoping their team could score an important win.
Instead, they came close but weren’t able to seal the deal and lost 108-106 to the Dallas Mavericks.
After the game, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr told NBC Sports and the press that he was very impressed by how hard his team worked.
“Love the way our guys fought…amazing effort,” Kerr said.
He added, “I love these guys.”
That was an admirable statement and the type of thing one would expect a coach to say after a loss but there were many fans online who weren’t happy to hear it.

Almost immediately, Warriors fans on Twitter were saying that the team isn’t doing enough to claim winnable games.
“Passion for winning out of the window,” one fan said.

Other people said Kerr’s words were just lip service and didn’t really mean anything.

Others claimed the time has come for Kerr to give his team some “tough love” and make them tougher, especially as the Play-In Tournament quickly approaches.

Various other people took offense at the number of turnovers the Warriors had during the game.
They put up 15 turnovers during the game, although the Mavericks actually did worse with 17.

Kerr clearly still believes in his team, which is good news, but the team needs more than his belief to thrive.
There are only a few more games left in the regular season and then the Warriors will have to battle through the Play-In Tournament.
That Play-In doesn’t allow teams to come close but ultimately fall short, like the Warriors did on Friday.
If they do that in a few weeks, their season will be over.
