The sports gambling industry keeps making strides in major sports, and particularly in the NBA.
Commissioner Adam Silver has embraced the industry with open arms, up to the point where they’ve even included live odds in the NBA Pass app broadcast.
Of course, it seemed like it was just a matter of time before this backfired.
That’s why the league decided to make an example out of Toronto Raptors’ PF Jontay Porter, who was recently given a lifetime ban for betting on NBA games.
With that in mind, New Orleans Pelicans F/C Larry Nance Jr. cracked a bit of a joke after his team eliminated the Sacramento Kings from playoff contention.
Now matched up with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round, Nance jokingly said that as good a team as the Thunder are, he’s currently betting on the Pelicans to get the job done, later clarifying that he’s not actually betting on the game or any game for all that matter (via Pelicans Film Room).
Larry Nance: Respectfully, I’m bettin on the Pels. I’m not BETTING, no Jontay Porter. I’m not BETTING. I’m not betting on anything. I don’t own a betting app, none of that. pic.twitter.com/0HgTbyXOHr

Needless to say, it didn’t take long before this clip went viral, and the fans had plenty to say about it.
Mans saw his career flash before his eyes. Don’t blame him.

Porter reportedly disclosed injury information to bettors who profited from betting.
And while the Porter family may not necessarily like this joke, it’s impossible not to laugh at this right now.
