The post-Tom Brady era has not been kind to the New England Patriots as the team has struggled to get back to form as one of the best teams in the AFC, which recently resulted in the team parting ways with longtime head coach Bill Belichick.

With the Patriots starting from scratch after firing Belichick, hiring Jerod Mayo to be the new head coach and trading quarterback Mac Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New England was intent on selecting a quarterback with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Fortunately for New England, the team was able to get their hands on a talented young quarterback with their first-round draft pick with North Carolina’s Drake Maye after the Chicago Bears brought in USC star Caleb Williams and the Washington Commanders drafted Jayden Daniels.

Although there’s been much speculation about the Patriots’ plans with Maye and whether the team will start him in Week 1 on the road against the Cincinnati Bengals, the former Tar Heels star is already showing his arm strength in practice as training camp gets underway.

Maye threw a long bomb in practice on Wednesday, which turned a lot of heads due to how easily he could sling it downfield via the NFL’s Twitter account.

With the Patriots bringing in a familiar face in veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett, there will be a quarterback battle throughout training camp.

Brissett might have the edge with the team potentially more comfortable with a veteran to start the season as opposed to a rookie, but that could easily change before Week 1.
