The Atlanta Falcons already have a franchise quarterback, but they know he might not be there for long.
They signed Kirk Cousins to a very lucrative four-year deal in the offseason, but he’s coming off a major injury, and he’s 35 years old already.
That’s why it only makes sense that they look for a replacement in this year’s stacked NFL Draft.
According to Albert Breer of SI.com (via ProFootballTalk), GM Terry Fontenot, HC Raheem Morris, and other members of the organization will work out Washington QB Michael Penix Jr. on a private workout in Seattle:
“Per Albert Breer of SI.com, Atlanta is sending “a sizable group” including General Manager Terry Fontenot and head coach Raheem Morris to work out former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. on Friday. The private workout will be conducted in Seattle,” read the report.

Penix excelled with the Huskies, even leading them to the CFP National Championship Game last season.
He was a Heisman trophy finalist, throwing for 4,903 yards, 36 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions last year.
Nonetheless, he does come with some baggage, as he’s 23 years old already, and he suffered multiple injuries during his collegiate career.
From a football perspective, however, a guy like Penix makes perfect sense for this organization.
Just like Cousins, he’s not the most mobile quarterback out there, but he’s perhaps the best pure passer in this class, and he can throw the football at all levels of the field.
The Falcons currently have the No. 8 pick, but Penix is projected to go late in the first round or even early in the second, so he could be a feasible target, assuming they like what they see on Friday.
