After another disappointing regular season and missing the NFL playoffs, the Atlanta Falcons headed into the NFL offseason determined to make some drastic changes on the offensive side of the football, namely the quarterback position, with Desmond Ridder clearly not the right man for the job under center.
Because the team was determined to improve offensively, the Falcons made one of the biggest moves of the offseason by signing veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins, formerly of the Minnesota Vikings.
Along with adding Cousins into the mix, a significant upgrade from Ridder, Atlanta also drafted Michael Penix Jr. in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, which was an unexpected move but gives the team some much-needed depth at the position.
Obviously, bringing in Cousins won’t do much if he doesn’t have some reliable weapons at his disposal.
Despite playing only two games during the 2022 campaign and missing all of last year, the Falcons were willing to take a chance on wide receiver James Washington, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.
The #Falcons are signing veteran WR James Washington, sources say. Washington had 114 catches for 1,629 yards and 11 TDs over four years with the #Steelers (2018-21), the last two of which he was coached by Ike Hilliard, now Atlanta’s WR coach. pic.twitter.com/FvbJCTIDKq

With so much missed time over the last two years, there’s no telling what the Falcons will get with Washington, as he could be a player who can’t get it done anymore after four decent seasons with the Steelers before the two games played in 2022.
There’s a chance that the Falcons get a steal with Washington if he is healthy and motivated, which might be what the team is counting on moving forward.
