Upon hearing the news of his departure from the Golden State Warriors, social media was pretty much split in half.
Some called out the organization for not doing right by their franchise legend, while others thought it was just the way things go in this business and they didn’t owe him anything.
Whatever the case, it marked the end of an era in the Bay area, and as such, it was only right that the Warriors released some sort of statement praising the best shooting guard in franchise history.
They did precisely so, thanking him for all he did and stating that he would never be forgotten (via NBA on TNT).

It’s not usual to see players spend their entire career with a single organization anymore.
A couple of years ago, the thought of Thompson playing for another franchise wasn’t even a possibility, but that’s just how the sports business operates.
Given how things went this season, this wasn’t much of a surprise, as Thompson was clearly disgruntled and it may have taken a big toll on his game.
Perhaps he might find some inner peace again now that he’s somewhere else.
And with him being the competitor he is, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him put up a huge performance against his former team every single time their paths cross until his playing days are over.
