The Los Angeles Lakers have been a team of stars throughout their history, as many of the game’s best players have donned the purple and gold in their careers and made the franchise one of the most iconic in all of sports.
Today marks the anniversary of a trade that brought in one of the team’s biggest stars over the past decade, and fans are taking the time to reminisce while the NBA offseason has quieted down following the early free agency boon.
Five years ago today, the Lakers traded for Anthony Davis, giving up a package that consisted of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Josh Hart, and three first-round picks.

The deal resurfaced partly because the Lakers drafted Dalton Knecht and the Pelicans recently traded for Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks, two pieces that stemmed from the assets included in the original Davis deal.
Fans had plenty of input in regards to who won the trade.

The Lakers won the title in 2020 with Davis leading the charge, while the Pelicans have yet to make it past the first round of the playoffs, so it’s tough to make a case for the Pelicans winning this trade even though they did get quite a big haul for AD.
Ingram is popping up in trade rumors left and right this offseason and could be on the move soon, with the Sacramento Kings serving as the most common destination being brought up.
Both sides likely aren’t complaining, as this was one of the best packages any team has received from trading a superstar.
It could have been even better had Lonzo’s knees held up for a while.
