There’s not a lot to get mad about as an NFL fan at the beginning of August as the preseason is just starting to get underway and training camp has renewed plenty of excitement ahead of the regular season.
But if you want to direct your anger at something as a fan, the NFL Top 100 exists for precisely that reason, and fans are currently losing it over Patrick Mahomes’ latest ranking.
The NFL released the top 10 portion of its Top 100 list recently, and the Kansas City Chiefs QB and three-time Super Bowl champion was voted just the fourth best player in the NFL, behind Christian McCaffrey at No. 3, Lamar Jackson at No. 2 and former Chiefs teammate Tyreek Hill at No. 1.

As previously mentioned, fans were less than pleased.

Mahomes came in fourth behind a player he just defeated in the Super Bowl, an opposing QB he just beat in the AFC Championship Game, and a receiver he won a Super Bowl with a few years ago before winning two more without him.
It’s tough to defend this one, even though Mahomes did have a down statistical season in 2023 as the Chiefs struggled at times with poor wide receiver play, but he still found a way to get it done in the playoffs by winning four more games and repeating as NFL champions.
The three players above him put up better statistical years in 2023, but back-to-back Super Bowls should be the trump card in this conversation.
Fans have a right to be upset about this, but it should be noted that this list is put together via player voting, so perhaps Mahomes’ peers are sick and tired of seeing him win and want to knock him down a peg.
